Happy Christmas/Festivus/Kwanza/Hanukkah!
Dear alternative banjoists,
I am sorry for the lack of, well, everything lately. But as a holiday gift to you, I am launching this new website. It may not look like much but be patient because it should get better.
So there are several new things.
- You may have noticed a sweet new url (http://alternativebanjo.com)
- You can make comments on tabs and thus dispute their accuracy.
- I can make blog posts (and you could too!)
- Pictures!
With that said, I am hoping for more user involvement because I have gotten much busier in the two years. So the first few blog posts will go over how I made the tabs. It will include screenshots, workflow and software that is used in the process. The other post that is in the oven is what kind of banjo you should buy. I have answered several emails about this subject and so I feel like it could become a useful post.
There are several things to note in these blogs and other content on the site.
- There will be many puns. So prepare to be punished.
- There will be much sarcasm.
- I will be brief in my descriptions, commentary, tablature, blog posts, and so on. I really dislike people who just repeat what they have already said. So as a promise to you readers I will maintain brevity by not repeating what I say in this website.
So with that said please let me know what you think. I am also working on a new design for the site but who knows if that will get done.
Oh, and if you are interested in writing banjo related posts on the site please let me know. Just give me your name, email and a sample post. But if not that’s cool too.
Enjoy!

Site looks nice, but I noticed that on the tabs they get covered up on the right hand side by the “Search Site” “Recent Comments” etc.

I’m just getting into the banjo (i got one for xmas!), and even though I can’t quite do anything on this site yet, it’s a total godsend.
Thanks for your work, friend.

Just wanted to say I really like the tabs. I was given a banjo for my birthday, so this has been helpful.

Thanks for the tabs, they are a great help for a starting-out player – it’s nice to try out songs that are really great and Sufjan Stevens does such an amazing job on the banjo.
I guess I have two requests if possible, Sufjan Stevens “seven swans” and Elliot Broods “Second Son”. seven swans is a great banjo individual with a relatively simple riff.
Keep up the good work it is much appreciated.
Looking forward to the notes on how to construct the tabs. Would like to have a try!
Off to strum some banjo!

hey I’m glad to see you’re still thinking about your banjo and that alternativebanjo isn’t completely dormant and forgotten.
I enjoyed going through most of your stuff on the old googlepages site (with mixed results, my roommates are sick of it). I have a few other sufjan banjo tabs that you didn’t and I’d be happy to share them. I couldn’t find an e-mail address to send them to though.

This is the first cool banjo website I’ve run across! I picked up a banjo a few weeks ago down at the local music store for about 200…christmas money well spent, and then some. haha.
Needless to say, I was totally lost at first because of my guitar background…the learning curve is kinda weird, but this website and the Sufjan tabs have really helped!
