FAF: Sofia’s Song
I really cannot say much today expect that Sufjan has posted a previously unreleased song from his past. From his blog post, he describes singing these songs “in the privacy of my dorm room, behind closed doors, pillows and cushions stuffed in the air vents so no one would hear.” The post describes what he was like as a child and a college student. I would highly recommend checking it out.
The post is also a reminder of what a magnificant writer he his. I dare not try to match its eloquence and brevity. So without further ado, Sofia’s Song.
Also a tab will follow shortly…
[UPDATE] The tab for this has now been posted!

Thanks! I was sad when there was not a new post last week. I’m glad to see its still happening. Thanks for the link to Sufjan’s blog – what a nice surprise!

P.S. I am an avid watcher of Jeopardy, and today they had a category on banjos. How wonderful!

wow, you pulled that tab together quickly.
Thanks mike!
Also, I found an amazing live CD of Sufjan playing in Toronto in 2004 last Saturday at a record store. The CD is called “North of the 50 States.” It was in an actual CD case, but it looks very home made and low budget. The quality is shockingly good though, someone somewhere put some serious effort into it.
If you’re interested in it dm me on twitter (I follow altbanjo) and I can give you a link.

Thanks for this, it’s awesome.
By the way, would you mind getting a tab out for “He Woke Me Up Again?”

hey! i’ve been using alternativebanjo for a few months now, ever since i got my first banjo. i love it! it’s been such a great help.
a quick note about this tab – i noticed while playing the d chord right after “tell it to your sister, too” and in subsequent appearances of that chord… it didn’t quite sound right. i may have figured it out, though, and tell me what you think –
instead of the d chord the way it is currently tabbed out, the d5 chord (the opening chord to the song) seems to fit better. it’s also considerably easier to get to in time.
what do you think?
